Seismic protection and isolation devices
Seismic isolation decouples the structure from ground motion, drastically reducing the seismic forces the structure must resist. EKKAF supplies and installs a full range of devices in partnership with AGOM.
Device categories
- Elastomeric isolation bearings (LRB / HDRB): bearings with a lead core or high-damping rubber, combining vertical support, lateral flexibility and energy dissipation.
- Friction pendulum bearings: spherical sliding surfaces with geometric re-centring, for large displacements and high loads.
- Viscous dampers: seismic energy absorption through controlled fluid flow, for bridges and buildings.
- Shock transmission units: allow slow thermal movements but lock the structure under sudden seismic actions.
Fields of application
- Bridges and interchanges in high-seismicity zones.
- Hospitals, schools and critical infrastructure buildings that must remain operational after an earthquake.
- Industrial facilities and tanks.
- Retrofit of existing bridges by replacing conventional bearings with isolators.
Every device is certified to EN 15129 (anti-seismic devices) and EN 1337, with laboratory tests documenting its stiffness and damping characteristics.
