The EKKAF story: synonymous with post-tensioning in Greece

Almost four decades of specialisation in special structural works, from bridges and silos to metro projects and Olympic infrastructure.

Our work happens on the jobsite — where design becomes structure

From Doering and Freyssinet to Greece

The renowned German engineer C.W. Doering is considered the father of prestressed concrete, patenting the technique in 1888 — though the technology of the era did not allow widespread use. In the early 20th century, the French engineer Eugène Freyssinet developed the technique in practice: after a series of impressive bridge works, where he simultaneously achieved large spans and material savings, he founded the Freyssinet company in 1943.

EKKAF was established in 1987 and is undoubtedly the pioneer of post-tensioning in Greece, having brought this technology to the country through the representation of Freyssinet. In the years that followed, EKKAF became synonymous with post-tensioning in Greece, participating in bridge design studies and doctoral research at the National Technical University of Athens, providing stressing protocols and measurements, and completing exceptionally demanding technical projects.

Expansion into bearings, joints and reinforcement

Following its successful participation in a number of Olympic projects in 2004, the need to enrich its solutions with bearings and expansion joints was identified. EKKAF entered an exclusive agreement with the Italian company AGOM for the supply of all types of bearings, seismic isolation devices and expansion joints. It also cooperates with Dywidag for structural bar and cable systems, and as the official partner of Fibre Net it now offers certified structural reinforcement systems based on FRCM, CRM and FRP composites.

Main fields of activity

EKKAF has collaborated with all major construction companies in Greece and the Balkans, participating in more than 1,000 post-tensioning projects of every type — bridges, silos, metro projects, sewerage works, permanent and temporary ground anchors — as well as bearing and bridge expansion joint supplies.

Quality policy

EKKAF operates a certified EN ISO 9001 quality management system across all of its activities: from procurement and quality control of materials to the execution of stressing operations and documentation with measurement protocols. All supplied products carry European certifications (CE marking, ETA, declarations of performance) from the manufacturers EKKAF represents.
