FRP BETONTEX system: strengthening with carbon fibre reinforced polymers
BETONTEX is Fibre Net's range of FRP (Fiber Reinforced Polymer) structural strengthening systems based on carbon fibres and epoxy matrices — the maximum-performance solution for reinforced and prestressed concrete.
The range
The range includes unidirectional and multiaxial fabrics, meshes, laminates (pultruded plates), fibre bundles, plus preformed bars and anchoring devices (spike anchors). Application is by bonding and/or in-situ impregnation with thermosetting epoxy resins, depending on the intervention technique and the design details.
Applications
- Beams and joists: flexural strengthening with laminates or fabrics at the intrados, increasing strength, stiffness and ductility.
- Beam–column joints: increased shear capacity and effective confinement of the joint with multiaxial fabrics — a critical seismic retrofit intervention for frames.
- Columns and bridge piers: confinement in potential plastic hinge regions, increasing the concrete's ultimate strain and overall ductility.
- Slabs: strengthening at the extrados with negligible increase in permanent loads and full reversibility.
- Decks and tunnels: fast upgrade interventions with minimal disruption to operation.
- Good-quality masonry: carbon fabric strips in truss or diagonal patterns.
Advantages
- High tensile strength and elastic modulus with an outstanding strength-to-weight ratio.
- Minimal thickness — practically no change in mass, geometry or stiffness.
- Design flexibility: fabric weight, number of layers and fibre orientation tailored to requirements.
- Proven technology with an extensive track record in seismic upgrading.
- Fast installation without major demolition, even in confined spaces.
- CVT certification for fabrics/laminates and CE marking for bars and anchors, with EPD.
Certification and design
FRP interventions are designed to CNR-DT 200 R2/2025 (instructions for the design, execution and control of strengthening interventions with fibre-reinforced composites) and the Italian FRP identification guidelines (2019). Careful substrate preparation is essential to prevent premature debonding — EKKAF provides complete application instructions and quality supervision.
